Ocean

We are surrounded by a seemingly free but bound ocean.

Thousands of water particles, connected with each other but individually separated.

They revolve around themselves individually, condensed into a chunk of warm waters.

These waters are separated, their boundaries intangible.

Beyond the border is the vacuum of silence.

Together, the vacuum and water form an ocean of contradictions.

This is how I feel about 2020 and 2021.

During the Pandemic, people's lives were deliberately separated in space and time, where we could only connect to each other through the Internet. The ocean of the Internet seems to be all visible, but it actually has invisible boundaries. After being on the internet and social media for so long, we think we mastered it as viewers, but we still can't see the hidden web distribution and display mechanisms. The boundaries between regions and people became more pronounced as well. The data-driven online society is amplifying our biases and pushing us into a troubling future. I created this virtual exhibition to try and express the ocean that I am living in.
